Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Mama Joy Backs Danny Jordaan, Twitter/X Reacts

Even in the midst of a whopping corruption scandal, Danny Jordaan, the president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), still has supporters – that includes songstress Joy “Mama Joy” Chauke!

Recently, Jordaan and two others – Gronie Hluyo, the Chief Financial Officer at SAFA, and businessman Trevor Neethling – were arrested on fraud charges. They stand accused of misusing R1.3 million of the association’s funds for personal gain.

On Tuesday, 10 December, the trio appeared at the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge, Johannesburg, Gauteng.

Mama Joy was also there, and judging by the pics she uploaded to Twitter/X, she was not shy about who she’s supporting:

Dressed in vibrant attire, the songstress – who has been endorsed by SAFA to perform at various footballing events over the years – was vocal about her belief in Jordaan’s innocence, expressing her unwavering loyalty to him despite the serious allegations.

“Supporting My President at Palm Ridge Magistrate court … I still say … Hands off My President Danny Jordaan … [sic] ” she tweeted alongside snaps of her with the SAFA boss.

“Am asking Court to drop the charges … have Patience and wait for court to prove that he is guilty … For now … Hands off [sic].”

In response to Mama Joy’s adamant message, followers expressed their frustration with her and accused her of throwing her morals out the window for a man with a somewhat chequered history (as well as strongly implying that she herself was pocketing some big bucks from the guy):

Meanwhile, other tweeps were confused that Mama Joy apparently asked the court to “drop the charges”, yet in the same sentence asked critics to wait on the court’s judgement:

Well, regardless of whether Mama Joy actually did what she claimed, it didn’t seem to matter: the court ruled against striking the case off the roll. This means that Jordaan and his co-accused are scheduled to appear in court again on 7 February 2025.

Maybe we’ll see the supportful singer back in court, too? As always, watch this space!
